Swimming Holes
Mettawee River Falls, VT – 10 min. drive Newmont Slate Co, 720 VT-149, West Pawlet, VT 05775. Look for Newmont Slate on the left. Stop, and you'll find a gorgeous swimming hole on the other side of the road, about 50 yards in.
Dorset Quarry, VT – 29 min. drive Two features distinguish this swimming hole from the others. It is not on a river and it has a sign; not a commercial announcement, but a historical marker that states you are about swim in the oldest marble quarry in the United States, opened in 1785. On Route 30, between the towns of Manchester and Dorset. It is easy to spot from the road and there is a separate dirt road for parking.
Benson's Hole, Manchester, VT – 39 min. drive Although the largest fall is only about 6 feet tall, this natural swimming hole is one of the best in Vermont. Parking is available on Glen Road (off of East Manchester Road), on the right before crossing the bridge. On foot, turn right off the road before crossing the bridge onto the obvious trail.
